I suggest you ...

route plans, again

i'd like to have some straightforward way of planning a route on a map, then have the app talk me through the waypoints / turns. ideally i could then save and share these routes, and choose between them in the future.

MapFactor GPS Navigation does a nice job.

Of course this would be an awesome feature, but until/unless it gets implemented, here's my workaround FWIW:

I define the route I want on Google Maps, share it via email (to myself). Open the route on my phone's browser in 'mobile' mode, and allow the web browser to share my location with maps.google.com. This will show the route and track where I am (with a blue dot) along the path. So I can at least see when a turn is coming up.

While this is running in the foreground, I have Cyclometer running in the background tracking my ride and giving my stats thanks to the audio feature. :-)

That's as close as I could get so far.
